I start with the fact that dyslexia is very hard. In a world created for readers our intelligent dyslexic kids face struggle after struggle and it is hard.
As parents, all we want is the best for our kids. The last thing we want is to watch them struggle. The last thing we want is to worry about their future before they have even really gotten a start.
Peace is elusive when just being able to read and write is so hard!
I don’t come to peace with dyslexia easily…neither peace with my own dyslexia or peace with the dyslexia 3 of my kids face but I have found that panic gets me nowhere so I work to maintain peace and acceptance every day. And from peace, we have learned to appreciate who we are and our struggle in a new way.
And what about progress? Well in my home, it comes only with patience and finding the right combination of what the research says and what my kids are willing to do.
Every kid is different. The bridge between what research says and what actually works is not simple or straight. Dyslexia impacts different kids in different ways! I have 3 kids with dyslexia and I know for sure that one solution definitely doesn’t fit all!
There is no peace to be found in insisting that I know all the answers. There is no peace to be found in adamantly arguing that there are any simple quick solutions. That won’t happen here.
Instead, I come here in hopes that I can offer you peace and progress in your dyslexia journey.
